SYDNEY FERRY DISASTER.
I have waited in vain for some token of sympathy to be conveyed across the sea by New Zealand to our Australian cousins in the terrible harbour tragedy which took place recently in Sydney. Is it ignorance or callous indifference on our part that is responsible for such a lapse of feeling? Surely some sign of our sympathy should have been sent. How different things would have been had the tragedy taken place in one of our harbours and one of our ferry boats been run down by an Australian vessel. Australians have warm, kind hearts and we have much to learn from them. They would not have let a returned soldier die of starvation as we did some time ago here. We seem to be growing up a selfish, indifferent people. AUCKLANDER.
