A TRAGEDY."
The girl stood, large tears rolling down over her cheeks, wringing her hands in uncontrollable grief. Her brother stood facing her. In his hand ho held' a short, thick piece of wood. . "Oh, Tommy," sobbed the girl, distractedly, "forgive . me —I—I—" Her opponent's face'was almost bloodred with rage; the wood in his hand shook as his lingers squeezed it with tremendous strength. "Forgive you!" he almost screamed. "Haven't I forgiven you over and over again ? I have warned you for the last time." "Tommy—Tommy—don't you realise "Realise, rot!" - . "I'll never do it again, Tommy." The girl looked at him pleadingly. "Do it again? I'm sure you won't, for I'm going to—" His temper now completely beyond control, he rushed towards her with raised weapon. The girl screamed and threw her arms upward; she half turned, but it was too late. With terrific force the weapon descended, and she crumpled in a heap on the ground. For a full halfminute her brother stood, looking down at her. Then the wood dropped from his fingers, and he looked appealingly up into the blue sky. "Oh, gosh," he cried, "what have I done now." "Splendid, Tommy!" The youth turned and looked, a smile now on his features, at the speaker. "To your satisfaction, sir?" lie asked, with slight sarcasm. "Why," returned the other, "if Rudolph Valentino were alive he couldn't have done it better. I'll bet you this picture will bo better than any. That onion to make Jean cry was a great success. Come on, Jean, you can come to life now; the scene's over. Wasn't it good, Tommy me gettin' this little cinema for my birthday?"
