PREDICTION OP EARTHQUAKES.
In your issue of October 1 Mr. Field made certain predictions for the present month, and, as it was practically a repetition of a similar prediction made some months previously, it is most interesting to compare results with the forecast. Mr. Field said earthquakes would probably occur on the 2nd and 10th, but they were actually on the Ist and 11th. This was not so accurate as some of his former predictions, but, to my mind, by far the most interesting result was in regard to the sudden activity that could be expected on October 2, which would probably cause the formation of a temporary island in the vicinity of Tonga, and, as this did actually occur on the date mentioned, it is a striking proof of MrField's knowledge regarding the workings of solar phenomena, ~" "-*-C.
