THAMES CLUB OPENS SEASON.

UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER EXPERIENCED.

Despite the steady rain which fell during Saturday morning and up till about 2 «"«* * here was a large attendance at the official opening of the Thames Bowling Bowling Club. Mr. C. Palmer, the president, stated that the club was formed 27 years ago. mainly through the' efforts of the late Mr. A. Court, the late Mr. A. Price being its first president. At the time or rorming it was thought that the club would not exist for more than a rear or so, but he was pleased to say that the club was still going strong, and now possessed three bowling greens and two croquet lawns, and was In a very satisfactory financial position. The presid'ent expressed the thanks of the club to Mr. F. Adamson. the green superintendent, and Mr. T. Keith, the greenkeeper, for the excellent state of the greens and their surroundings. After welcoming the visitors, the president called upon Mrs. Palmer to throw the Jack, and Mr. T. Newman (one of the oldest members of the club) to bowl the first bowl, which was accomplished amid applause, and the president declared the season open. The company then adjourned to the ladies' croquet greers. where the president wished the members a most successful season, and asked Mrs. F. Adamson to strike the first ball. This being done, he declared the greens open for play. Afternoon tea was then dispensed he the ladies. Williams* orchestra providing excellent music. \Tbe rain by this time had lifted, and the visitors were entertained at plav en the winter green for the remainder of the afternoon.
