CRICKET.
ENTRIES DUE NEXT WEEK
ONE DAY MATCHES PROPOSED. Entries for the Auckland Cricket Association competitions will close on October 24, and those for the Suburban Association competitions on October 25. In view of the fact that the Domain will be used for sports meetings after the Labour Day sports, it is probable that that ground may not be available for cricket till November 12. The New Zealand cricket team, bound for home, is expected to reach Fremantle to-day, and is due to start the match at Sydney ten days later. The Waikato Association is considering a proposal to approach the Auckland Association with a view to having the services of J. Langridge or E. H. Bowley at some stages of the season for coachin* purposes. The proposal to experiment with oneday senior matches is engaging the attention of the Suburban Association. At present opinion among the members of the several clubs is being obtained on a plan to try out the experiment this season for the first round of -senior matches along the lines proposed in-the "Star" Sports Special recently. It is likely that a decision will be arrived at next week. Extension of the playing time of matches to 7 p.m. is not likely to be universally popular with town players engaged in fixtures in the out-districts The railway time-tables do not fit in with this time, and return to town by bus, of course, means that players will not get back home till after 8 p.m. E. H. Bowley and J. Langridge, who have professional engagements with the Auckland Association, and Eastmann, Wilson and Newmann, who are coming out to coach for Otago, Taranaki and Canterbury respectively, are expected to reach Wellington by the Corinthic on Sunday or Monday next.
