PAYMENT BY RESULTS.
ARBITRATION AMENDMENT.
CONSTITUTION OF COURT.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday.
Legislators are awaiting with keen interest the Government Arbitration Act Amendment Bill. It has been completed for Cabinet consideration, and it is reported that a clause has been included giving the Arbitration Court power, when making awards, to authorise, where practicable, arrangements for payment on the basis of results. This will be safeguarded by a qualification that no such bonus or piecework method shall prejudice minimum wages and the limitation of hours, to be provided in the main award. It is also thought likely that the bill will provide for a judge and two assessors.
The Minister is reluctant to discuss the bill at this stage.
