Australian Court Rules Tin Hare Betting Legal. SIMILAR TO COUBSING. SYDNEY, October 4. In tlie ease concerning the legality of betting a t mechanical hare coursing matches Mr. Justice Campbell in Chambers to-day delivered his reserved judgment. He found that there were no fundamental differences in the principal objective and method of enclosed coursing and of mechanical hare coursing. In both cases it was a question of speed and cleverness. His Honor therefore found that \betting on mechanical hare coursing was lepal. and the rule nisi granted on September 15 was made absolute. The case originally was beard in the Glebe I'o'ice Court, when the magistrate imposed a penalty of £20 on defendant. He ruled that mechanical hare racing is not a true coursing meeting, at which the Betting Act permits betting. Notice oi appeal was lodged.

SCOTT TO MEET HEENEY.

Phil Scott, the British heavy-weight champion, who is going to America to box in the eliminating rounds for the light to challenge Tnnney, just missed the Olympic boat train at Waterloo. He hired a motor car and reached Southampton in time to jump on the steamer as the gangway was withdrawn. Scott will meet Sharkey, Tom Heeney, of New Zealand, and Paolino in the eliminating fights.
