SHIP SINKS AT WHARF.
CARGO NOT PERISHABLE. CREW SURPRISED OX RETCEMNG. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondents WANGANUI, Monday. The Waireka, one of the smalfcf vessels of Messrs. A. Hatrick and CoP* pany's river fleet, sank at her moorfflgi at the company's main wharf at Hijunction of Taupo Quay and Soma® Parade on Saturday night. Saturday a cargo of timber and was taken in and the steamer was to sail up the river that night. after 7 p.m. the crew temporarily the Waireka, and on their return 10.30 p.m. were surprised to find swamped alongside the wharf. It is surmised that the vessel b® 6 ®®® caught at the wharf and did not grt free with the rising tide, thus beeonu®B filled with water. Fortunately, the calf was not perishable and no _ daiMjp resulted from its contact with tae water. The vessel was refloated this morning without damage-
