DOMINION'S FLOCKS.
INCREASE RECORDED. TOTAL EXCEEDS 26,600,000. (By Telegraph. — Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. A total increase of 744,023 sheep is shown in the annual return, tabled in the House of Representatives to-night, the total number of sheep in the Dominion being 25,649,016.
In the North Island, there were 13,957,820 sheep on April 30 of this year, or 127,570 more than in 1926. The largest number in any one county is 1,189,825 in Hawke's Bay, a decrease of 10,797. The next largest number is in Rangitikei. where an increase took plape. An increase of 616,453 wat> recorded in the South Island, which had 11,691,196 sheep. The largest number in any one county was 1,167,516 in Southland, an increase of 162,751. The Auckland district had 3532 sheepowners, with 2,289,488 sheep; the Napier-Gisborne district, 3599 owners, with 6,317,884; Wellington-West Coast, 4459 owners, with 5,350,448; Marl-borough-Nelson-Westland, 2377 owners, with 1,369,648; Canterbury-Kaikoura, 5713 owners, with 5,102,411; and Otago, 5929 owners, with 5,219,137.
There were 25,609 sheep owners in New Zealand, and increase of 564. Their flocks total 25,649,016, of 744,023 more than in 1926. I
