BOYS' ESCAPADE.
DAUBED SCHOOL WITH PAINT.
"DELIBERATE LIES TOLD." MAGISTRATE BLAMES PARENTS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Two small boys who procured paint and brushes from a shed in the Central School grounds, and then broke into the main building and daubed the walls with paint, appeared before Mr. Platts, S.M., in the Juvenile Court this morning. They pleaded not guilty. Senior Sergeant McLean produced statements of confession signed bv each hoy, giving details of the escapade". The statements had been made in the presence of the headmaster. The magistrate said it was. a great pity that the parents had encouraged the children to tell untruths. In this case deliberate lies had been told, and evidently some influence had been brought to bear upon the boys, who had previously made a full confession. In reply to the magistrate, the mother of the younger boy said she would agree to send him to St. Joseph's Orphanage, Auckland.
The elder boy was placed under the supervision of the probation officer for 12 months.
Each boy was ordered to pay 25/ on account of the damage.
