FIRE BOARD APPOINTMENT. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
WHANGAREI, this day. A special meeting of the Whangarei Fire Board appointed Mr. Adam Wells, secretary to the board, out of twelve applicants to fill the vacancy caused bv the death of the late secretary (Mr. C J. Eccles). The Maungaturoto Dairy Company's output for the month of September was 25 tons 16cwt, as compared with 18 tons 12cwt. in September, 1926. The season's output is 45 tons 6cwt, as compared with 32 tons 4cwt. for the corresponding period of last year. Following on the recent movement a branch of the Society for the Prevention of Qruelty to Animals has been estab lished in Whangarei. Mr. Hall has been appointed honorary inspector in the meantime.
