DREDGING MACHINERY.
EFFECT OF NEW TARIFF. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The Customs duties on dredgiofi machinery were discussed by a deputation which waited pn the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart to-day. '
was , stated if the proposed tariff with regard to dredging machinery were adhered to there would be no further development in dredging on the West Coast, and companies at present operating would be severely handicapped. The Minister said there was a clause in the Tariff Bill whi<jh would nieet the case. Where machinery could no* be manufactured in New Zealand sucli machinery would be admitted f-oia Britain. '
