LIFE SENTENCE.

About three months ago a young man, Allan Symon, was charged in the Police Court with attempting to murder bis brother Herbert. The facts, a* recounted ; in the Lower Court, were that Allan Symon bad be«o annoyed by a rma.ll boy while he was gardening, and bad been prevented by bis brother from chastising the boy. Later he had *hot his brother in the neck with a pea ride Since Symon was committed for trial be h** been in a mental hospital lie appeared before Mr. Justice tiro in the Supreme Court this morning, asd pleaded guilty to the charge. The superintendent of the mental hospital reported that prisoner was not of very high intelligence, and recommended that he be given « term of reformative detention, to instil discipline. In imposing sentence, his Honor said he would not take the reeponsibility of imposing reformative detention, with the possibility that prisoner would, after his release, shoot someone elec He was a. danger to society. His Honor thought the best course would be to impose the maximum penalty, and the Prisons Board could review the ca.se and if ooeeesary send the prisoner to a Borstal institution. The *cntence was imprisonment with hard labour for Life.
