"CONVERSION" OF CARS.
NO INCREASE IN PENAI/TT.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph.-Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. The penalty imposed for the wrongful use of motor cars will not be altered, according to a letter from the Minister ?£ J S £' RJ - Ronton, to the South Island Motor Union, which had urged an increase in the penalty. The Minister, stated, in a tetter received by the executive of the union that it was not proposed to make any amendment of the Police Offences Act this session. He doubted whether the ijsrease of the penalty as suggested by the union would make very much difference as a deterrent to the effence, but he would take the matter into consideration when any further amendment to the law on the subject was proposed.
