OVERNIGHT FIRES.
DAMAGE TO BUTCHERS' SHOP.
A call was received by the Parnell Brigade at 9.58 hut evening to 30, Parnell Road, a butchers' shop, occupied by Messrs Reid and Herk. The fire was located in a room used for making up small goods, and the flames were quelled after slight damage had been done to the room and one immediately above it. The outbreak might have been more serious had it not been discovered in its early stages, as the shop is one of a row of wooden buildings forming a continuous block. The contents of the shop, which is owned by Mr. R. Roberts, of Newmarket, are insured to the extent of £300 with the Norwich Union Assurance Company. Shortly after four o'clock yesterday afternoon an outbreak of fire at the house of Mr. A. C. Overend, Rowan Street, Mount Roskill, caused slight damage to the washhouse. It is reported that the fire resulted from an electric iron being left on. The Mount Roskill Brigade had little difficulty in subduing the flames.
