"This is <Jhe man with all the illegitimate children scattered over various parts of Xew Zealand," said Mr. Bryce Hart, at the Police Court this morning. '•Oh, is he?" said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.U., as he eyed Christopher Thomas Morris (4o), who stood near his counsel, Mr. Hart. Morris smiled, and appeared to take his solicitor's remark as a compliment. Mr. Hart explained that Morris was applying for a variation of the maintenance order made against him in favour of his wife. .Since the matter was last before Mr. McKeau at the Police Court, when it was adjourned until to-day, Morris had been served with divorce papers by his wife. "According to the book here on my desk, this is a matter of his being in arrears to the extent of £79 in connection with a maintenance order," said the magistrate. Mr. Hart pointed out that Mr. McKcan had struck that out. Morris was now applying for variation of another order, as he had no earthly chance of keeping it. "He is £202 in* arrears for il!egit£ mate children in Christchurch, and he has four up here to keep. There arc no children by his wife." "And he deserted two women?" asked Mr. Hunt. Morris: Oh, no, sir, I never desert them. Mr. Hunt: He's got so many children all over the country that he forgets them all and just where he stands. Mr. Hart: He has seven. I told him before that he should keep a diary, sir. (Laughter.) Mr. Hunt cancelled the order for maintenance of Morris' wife.
