egg uf renown, was but good in patches, a plentiful Mipply of what were veritable quagmires being interspersed with the turf, diarists preserved their lead at the head of the table after a closely contested game with Richmond. The latter gavo a bright display of open football, and their care-flee methods of progression took them into the collective heart o-i the crowd. Marist, on the other hand, were solid, and solidity was triumphant in the end. They literally grasped every scoring chance that came their way, whereas, on the other hand, Richmond were surlicientlv frail or faulty at crucial moments to bridge the wide gap that lies lietween the fruits oi victory and the pangs of defeat. Two points down at the interval. Ponsonby pulled themselves togetherin their game with City, and in the end won by a comfortable margin. The third game between Dcvonport and Grafton Athletic, was postponed, a suburban mound as -vet not being transformed into dry land after a weepful week.
