The New Zealand cricketers yesterday commenced a three-day's match against Yorkshire at Bradford. The county won the toss and made 377 runs in their first innings. Holmes and Sutcliffe looked as if they were set for another century for the first wicket till Blunt co'mpletelv beat the Test match champion. After the home side had lost two wickets for 61 Holmes and Leyland became partners and added 247 for the third wicket. They played delightful cricket and scored 200 in two hours. Leyland hit one six and 14 fours. The bowlers had a heartless task on the dead pitch, but the fielding was very keen.

The 5000 spectators displayed the liveliest admiration for Dacre's spell of tricky and brainy bowling. He sent down 14 overs, three of which were maidens. Holmes played a chanceless innings. He was batting four hours and hit 24 fours. The New Zealanders, in the So minutes in which they batted, lost two valuable wickets. Sutcliffe, in the slips, gathered in snicks by Dempster and Blunt off Douglas, the fast bowler of Yorkshire's second eleven. YORKSHIRE. —First Innings.
