GOING HOME.
BRITISH TRADE OFFICIAL a AUSTRALIA'S WOOL CLIP WILL DROP." ■ ■ ■ BIGGER DEMAND POR ENGLISH CARS, BriLirli Trade Commissioner in New Zealand for six years, and now holding the senior post in Australia, Mr. R. W. Dalton is going back Home for a holiday, lie is a through passenger by the Aorangi, and will not be back in Sydney until next March. Mr. Dalton will be well remembered here, for up until 1022 he was Commissioner in the Dominion, with headquarters in Wellington. Leaving the Dominion, he went to Canada, where he was Commissioner for two years. Then he went to Australia, and has been Senior Trade Commissioner there for nearly four years. Chatting on the boat this morning, Mr. Dalton said that the imports to Australia, both British and foreign, had been on a very big scale this year. The trade in Australia just now was largely due to heavy borrowing by the State Governments. Motor imports, particularly, had been big, and he thinks that when the year is ended, 20,000 cars will have been brought in from England. "People are going in for light and medium English cars over there," he said. "Cars ranging from £450 to £550 are in great demand.'' "That British Motor Delegation that came out was most valuable," ' Mr. ' Dalton went on. "They were able to study the roads and conditions, and Britain will now design cars that are suitable in every detail. It would be a , good thing if delegations of the same ■kind, only in different branches of the ' trade, made periodical visits. It would surely lead to an expansion of trade. ( "There is no doubt that Australia is , prosperous at present, hut the country needs rain badly. There is a big drought in Queensland, and New South Wales and Victoria arc both dry. The wool clip is estimated to show a reduction of 10 per cent this year, and unless continuous rain comes soon, the position will be bad."'
