CONFERENCE AT WORKS,

EXTENSION OF INDUSTRIAL AWARD SOUGHT.

Following tee mass meeting of Arapnni workers on Sunday. when it was decided to secede from the New Zealand Workers' Union, and to

affiiiate with the Auckland Labourers' Union, a conference is being held at Arapani to-day. presided over by Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, at which a number of points in dispute in connection with the recent strike, are being discussed. Mr. R. F. Barter, secretary of the Amalgamate Society of Engineers, is representing his body at the conference, which is expected to clear up many points which it is alleged have been the cause of a certain amount of unrest among the men in the past. The object of Mr. Barter's visit is to secure a conference with the contractors so that Le may advocate the extension of the existing industrial awards to the members of his union. Mr. J. Sutherland, secretary of the General Labourers' Union, has also journeyed to Arapuni.
