(Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 29. Shortly after 1.30 p.m., local time, the steamer Columbus radioed that it was in communication with the America, which was then off Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland, flying at 5000 feet. The airship, with the exception of a short period, has been in constant communication with vessels and the shore. OFF HALIFAX. IN THICK FOG. (Received 9.30 a.m.) HALIFAX, June 20. The America was 40 miles from here at 11.10 a.m. There was a thick fog, but no wind. PARIS PREPARING. EXPECTED THURSDAY NIGHT. (Received 10 a.m.) PARIS, June 20. Le Bourget aerodrome, where Commander Byrd is expected to land, 's lit with flares, and the airway from the coast is picked out with lights. The aviators are not expected oefore midnight on Thursday. RECORD HINTED AT. VIENNA STATED AS OBJECTIVE. (Received 10 a.m.) BERLIN, June 29. Rumours that Byrd will attempt a distance record to Vienna across the south of Germany have aroused the reo.it intense interest. Wireless stations have been instructed to keep on the alert. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SINGAPORE, June 29. Mi. Van Lear Black, who is flyingj from Amsterdam at Batavia, arrived to-day. Mr. Black, an American newspaper proprietor, left Amsterdam on June 15, accompanied by a valet, in a Fokker monoplane, in which he had already flown 13,000 miles. He said he intended to fly to Australia. He is making remarkably good progress. AUSTRALIA CUT OUT. (Received 11 a.m.) SINGAPORE, June 29. Van Lear Black says he is not going to Australia. SYDNEY, June 29. The aviators, Mr. C. Ulm and Captain Kingsford Smith, have arrived at Sydney. ' Their flight around Australia has thus been completed in 10 days.
