COST OF STREET MAINTENANCE
NEWMARKET ESTIMATES.
The cost of street maintenance in the borough of Newmarket for the year ending Marcli 31 next is estimated at £3492 19/ G. It was reported last evening that the detailed estimates had been made as follows: —Repairs to footways, £537 7/; repairs to carriageways, £334 12/0; street sweeping, cartage and general maintenance, £1450; traffic and lighting, £950; experimental concrete paving footway, £150; tree planting, streets, £90. The allocation for the year is £3500.
A new scale of license fees drawn up by the chief inspector of explosives was approved. It was explained that the fees for licenses for storage of dangerous goods were drawn up at a time when the storage of petrol was practically confined to 8 gallon packages, and that in view of the introduction of bulk storage a new scale of fees had been drawn up.
