CHILD ENDOWMENT.
First Payment To Be Made August 1. HEAVY COST OF SCHEME. (.Received 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. In consequence of the declaration of the basic wage, Mr. Lang states that the child endowment scheme will operate from July 1, and the jjrst payment will be made on August 1. The scheme includes a tax of three per cent on the total wages sheets of all employers in the State. In the Railway Department the new wage and endowment will cost approximately £.300,000 per annum.
