Preparations for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Canadian Federation on Friday are fast approaching completion throughout the Dominion. Three days will be occupied in the elaborate programme, which will include many unusual features, such as an attempt to broadcast the music of the Parliament Hill Carillon over North America and other parts of the world. \ arious cities will follow the example of Ottawa in historical pageants, com nieinorating the federation, the planting of trees in honour of the event, and the participation of children in parades, etc. bundav, the third day of the celebration will be devoted to a national thanksgiving service, prepared for use throughout Canada, also to a special Sundav School service. Special prayers nf thanks-giving will also be uttered at mass in the Catholic churches. Many Americans will officially participate in the celebrations?, particularly those of Canadian birth. As originally constituted, the Dominion of Canada was composed of the provinces of Upper and Lower Canada, now Ontario and Quebec. Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. They were united under the! provisions of an Act of the Imperial Par-! liament, known as ''The British North America Act, 1867,"' which came intoi operation on July 1, 1567, by Royal proclamation. The Act provides that the constitution of the Dominion shall be "similar in principle to that of thei United Kingdom," that the executive authority shall be vested in the sovereign of Great Britain and Ireland, and carried out in his name by a Governor-General and Privy Council; and that the legislative power shall be exercised by a Parliament of two Houses. Provision was made in the Act for the admission of British Columbia. Prince Edward Island, the North-west territories, and Newfoundland into the Dominion. Newfoundland alone has not availed itself of the provision.
