DEFENCE OFFICERS.
EXCHANGES WITH INDIA. MOVEMENTS IN AUGUST. {I'y Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON", Tuesday. In accordance with the policy of exchanging otliccrs of the New Zealand permanent forces with officers of the Biiti.--h Army in India, the following ollieers of the N>\v Zealand Staff Corjis will leave New Zealand toward the end of August for India:—Captain L. \Y. Andrew, V.C.. of New Plymouth; Lieutenant A. W. Grenville, of Blenheim; and Lieutenant A. L. 11. Sugden, of chureh. The officers who ranie to New Zealand in 1923 from India will return at the same time. Captain A. Le G. Campbell, who is also due to return to India, has applied for an extension of two years. If approved by the Government of India this extension will he granted. The officers from the British Army in India on exchange nre expected to arrive early in August. At the same time the New Zealand officers who went to India in 1025 will return to New Zealand. They are Major L. Potter; Captain J. O. S. Wales, M.C., and Captain J. I. Brooke.
NEW RECRUITING SYSTEM. YOUNGER MEN", LONGER TRAINING. ißy Telegraph-—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Cabinet approval has recently been given a new system of recruiting for the Now Zealand "permanent forces. During recent Years it has been the policy to appoint as stall sergeants ex-non-com-missioned officers of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force or of the British Army. The now system provides for the enlistment of younger men. who will bo given a longer period of recruit training and appointed to the permanent staff as corporals as vacancies occur. Fifteen recruits will commence training at Trentham early in September.
