TROTTING.

WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES. (By ORION.) FIXTURES FOR THE SEASON. July 2—Ashbiirton County Racing Club. July 21—Waimate Hunt Club. July 23—South Canterbury Hunt Club. August 6, 10, 12—Metropolitan Trotting Club. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has put on an attractive programme for its August meeting. Nominations close on July 14, at noon. GLANDORE GOES SOUTH. The speedy, but somewhat disappointing Glandore, is to be given an opportunity to make good in the South, and the roan pacer has gone into D. Bennett's stable. On several occasions Glandore has demonstrated that he has sufficient pace and stamina to win a big race, but his habit of losing a lot of ground at the start has always militated against his chances. If Bennett can get him to jump into his starts and settle down to pace at the start he would not be long in winning a good stake. DIRECT WOOD SOLD. After the race for the Adams' Memorial Cup at Epsom last week, Mr. Barton was anxious to reduce his team, and two of the horses he offered for sale were the trotter Napland and the pacer Direct Wood. Apparently there were no buyers in Auckland, and both were returned South. However, since reaching Christchurch Direct Wood has been sold to a patron of A. Hendricksen's stable, and will in future be a companion to Cardinal Logan and Co. Although beaten out of a plaee in her Auckland engagements Direct Wood went a fair race each time, and should pick up a stake in her turn PETERWAH AT ADDINGTON. Peterwah, recognised as in the very first flight of the Dominion's best trotters, did not return to Gisborne after the Auckland meeting, but was taken on to Christchurch in order that the chestnut may be specially prepared for the August meeting of the Metropolitan Club at Addington. With Escapade also on hand it Addington in August, the meeting of the pair in the big trotting events will Teate interest. METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB. The annual report of the Now Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club state* that the year's operations show a profit of £30W». This, the committee feelsure, will be accepted by members' ;i----very satisfactory, considering tinrestricted spending power of the community, caused by the general slutiijt in the Dominion's commodities.
