NEW CHURCH HALL.

The Rev. P. Smallfield. vicar of the Mount Roskill Anglican Mission, waited upon the Mount Eoskill Road Board last night, together with Mr. 5. Leahy and Mrs. Dale as a deputation from the mission. Mr. Smallfield. acting as spokesman, informed the board, that the mission committee proposed to erect a new church hall on a site in Mount Albert Road. He asked the board to consider (1) the valuation of the new building which had been estimated at £700 by the board's building inspector. That, of course, affected the permit fee to be paid by the committee. The building would not cost more than about £300, which would be for material, as it was proposed to erect the building by voluntary Jabour free of costs; (2) the inspector had said the building must be put back 30 feet from the pavement. If they had to do this the hall would practically be overhanging a precipice. He asked that they be allowed to put it back 10 feet. This would give th»> hall a better appearance, and it could stand on level ground. He hoped that in time the mission would be in a position to shift the hall further back on the section and erect a permanent church in its place.

The board expressed its sympathy with the mission iu its proposal, and agreed to allow the building to stand 12 feet back instead of 30 feet, and to remit the permit fee of £2 12/6.
