LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN. A meeting of the New Lynn Town Board was held last evening. There vert present: Messrs. G. Lorie (chairman), L. Titchener, C. E. H. Pott, R. P. Wood, J. Akehurst, I. Hughes, and J. A. fielding. Gardner Street Culvert.—The Work# Committee recommended that Mr. Gray, engineer, be asked to report on the country above and below thk culvert, a vj ew to informing the board on the suitability as t-o size and the present level. Adopted. j Power Poles.—Arising out of the Work* I Committee's report, Messrs. Hughes and rieldmg vigorously protested against the action of the chairman of the Work* Committee in authorising the Waitemat* I ower Board to remove power poles without the board's consent. Tue chairman stated that the removal of the poles was the outcome of the new cuilding line adopted by the board on the Great North Road. He moved the action be endorsed, which was agreed to by 5 to 2. Links Road.—A letter was received from the Maungakiekie Golf Club re dedication of a private stretch of road connecting Links Road xrith Astley Avenue. The club offered to agree to the dedication, subject to the board paying £300 for the land. Referred to Legal and Finance Committee. Playing Areas for Young People—The need of playing areas for young people was emphasised by the Rev. Rankin. The minister stated that there were forty young fellows in the district that required recreation every Saturday. He represented no denomination iti the matter. The board was asked to give consideration ! the -use of the ground in the vicinity o; tl.e board's offices. Ultimately it was hoped to take advantage of Lawson Park Domain, but the area was not suitable t the present time. The chairman pointed out that the board's area was not large enough, but the situation might be j met temporarily if the neighbouring proj perty owners would consent to part of their land being used for the purpose. If approached, he thought the owners would give favourable consideration. -The minister stated that if the board would give the use of its plant in levelling Lawson Park they would find the wages of the men. Proposed New Road.—The offer of land made by Mr. Thode for the purpose of constructing a new road through to Rata Street, Kelston, and also the option held by the board over a portion of Mr. Todd's property, with a view to continuing the proposed road to the Great North Road, was apain under consideration. The board agreed to accept the offers made but reserves the right to assess Mr. Thode for betterment when the new road is put through. The cost of the new road is to be borne by a special rating area. Mail Delivery.—The Town Clerk was authorised to make representations to the Chief Postmaster with a view to securing improvement in connection with postal facilities. New Buildings.—The inspector reported having issued seven permits for dwellings during the past fortnight. Eight houses were in course of erection. "Clean-up" Day.—lt was resolved that > next Monday should be a "clean-up"' day [ and rubbish will be collected throughout the entire district.
