ADVERTISING.
NEWEST ARTS AND DEVICES
DISPLAY AT TOWN HALL.
Simplicity is the keynote of the New Zealand advertising exhibition, inaugurated by the Auckland Advertising Club, which was opened at the Town Hall Concert Chamber this afternoon.
In declaring the exhibition open the Mayor (Mr. Geo. Bailddn) said that the exhibit was one which should commend itself to the Auckland public, and he trusted that it would meet with the full success that was anticipated by the exhibitors. The Town Hall Concert Chamber has been transformed for the occasion, the lay-out being tastefully arranged stalls to display attractively modern methods of advertising. The exhibition will be continued until July 2, and each evening short addresses will be given on various subjects connected with advertising. It is interesting to recall that ninS years ago a small band of advertising men met in a Queen Street tea room and discussed over the tea-cups a plan for the formation of an advertising club in Auckland. The development of advertising in New Zealand following the war, and the enormous strides which the business was making in England and America, gave the necessary impetus to the movement, and very quickly about seventy enthusiasts had placed their names on the membership role. Realising that the greatest need of its members was along educational lines, the club made an excellent start by arranging for regular addresses by competent speakers. The talks to members embraced many phases of advertising, and undoubtedly resulted in much valuable information on publicity matters being disseminated. After the first two years the club decided to widen its activities. In 1922 a "Better Times" campaign was held, followed the next year by a carnival. The club has steadily strengthened its position, and fortnightly addresses have been a feature.
The object of the present exhibition is to present to the business community the latest and most scientific methods now being employed in all branches of advertising publicity. An attractive booklet, setting forth the aims and objects of the exhibition, has been published, and will be available to visitors.
