FOR THE LITTLE ONES

A FUNNY TOY, OUT WITH PAINTS AND CRAYONS. My Dear Little Friend*,— Now that you've finished the lovely picture I gave you last week I'm sure you're looking round eagerly for something fresh to do. 1 hope you haven't put away your paints and crayons, because you'll need them to make the funny toy of which I'm going to tell you. You'U want a piece of thin cardboard, some paste, and a pair of scissors as well. The first thing to do is to take the head of the little boy I've drawn for you and the diagram beside him, and paste them both to a piece of cardboard. When you've done this, cut them out carefully. Next cut

•lots above each of his eyes—l'te shown you where to do it in the picture—and in the place where his mouth ought to be. You'll have to do this very neatly, and exactly in the places that I've marked. Now to paint him; I think he would look nicest with yellow hair, very pink cheeks, white collar, red bow and blue coat. You could make the spots on the collar any shade you fancy. Now for the second diagram. That dark part in (he middle has to be painted, too. Make it the brightest red you possibly can, and then cut all round it except where I've drawn the dotted line. Now fold down the top along the top dotted line, and push the red piece out and then you are ready for the fun. 1 daresay you've already guessed what it's for. You'll soon see for yourselves when you put it through the lower slot in the little boy's face and poke the two rounded pieces through the holes , , above his eyes. If you move it up _ and down, you'U see him poke out X"IJ his tongue and open his eyes in the ff(t_ A funniest way. I think he's very V*' / rude, don't you?
