RAETIHI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. W. H. Sandford presiding. Councils Protest to Revaluation.—ln relerring to the application made to the valuation Department by several ratepa>erg on the main street, the chairman said that he objected to it on the grounds that the council had applied for a regulation of the whole of the borough, and the application had been ignored by the Department, and yet a revaluation of a few properties had been granted. In some cases a 75 per cent cut had been made, and it placed other ratepayers iii a \ erv unfair position. When the present pierenieal valuation was made there were no borough assessors present, as had been the case when the last revaluation was made. The revaluation of the borough was two years past due, and if the valuation of properties is going to be reduced, then rates would have to be increased to help the council meet its liabilities. He considered that the Department in common courtesy should have advised the council of the present revaluations. After discussion, it was decided that the ValuerGeneral be asked again for a revaluation or the whole borough, and that objection be made regarding the present revaluations m?de. Subsidies to Boroughs.—The Public Works Department advised that in future subsidies to boroughs will be dependent solely on the rate of expenditure per mile per annum on adjoining highways, and on the borough sections being satisfactorily maintained, and it will be necessary to submit a claim giving detailed expenditure. Diversion of Water.—Owing to the flooding of two residents' properties by storm waters, it was decided to divert the stream on the Ameku Road, and that the work be put in hand as soon as f^ ps 'p! e '. . f 1 also decided to widen the Pipiriki Road at a certain place and to build up weak places. finance.—Accounts amounting to £1166 0 9 were passed for payment.
