LADIES' GOLF.
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. TOURNEY STARTS ON TUESDAY. THE LIST OF ENTRIES. The ladies' annual provincial golf tournament of Auckland will be held next week at the Middlemore linlcs, starting on Tuesday. Among the 112 entries which have been received are the champion. Miss E. Culling, of Auckland. Miss I). C'hrystall, of Canterbury. Mrs. Russell Grace, of Wanganui, a prominent trio
from Wellington in Miss M. Ward, Mrs. Shailer-Weston and Mrs. Foreman. A large number of ladies from the province are competing, though Miss M. Pavton (last year's runner-up) who is now at Rotorua, is unable to take part.
Owing to the large number of entries, ladies with handicaps of more than 25 have been excluded. All competitors are required to be on the starting tee at the time appointed in order that the matches may be finished in a good light.
The programme for the tournament is as follows: —
Tuesday.—Morning: First qualifying round of championship of IS holes, and medal handicap in conjunction. Afternoon: Second qualifying round of championship, and medal handicap in conjunction. The sixteen players with the best gross scores will qualify.
Wednesday.—Morning: First round of championship, match play, 18 holes; handicap bogey match. Afternoon: Approaching and putting competition.
Thursday.—Morning: Second round of championship; handicap medal match. Afternoan: Semi-finals of championship. Friday.—Morning: Canadian foursomes. Afternoon: Final of championship.
The tournament committee is departing from usual practice in having two qualifying rounds. In the past there has only been one qualifying round.
