kawarau dam. GATES TO CLOSE OX TUESDAY. Auckland shareholders in the Kaxrarau Co. will be interested to learn that it is proposed to close the gates of the dam next Tuesday. This has been decided upon because five mining companies in Cromwell are anxious to get to work on the river now that the frosts have set in. which means a diminution ot the water flowing from the ranges. Last winter the gates of the dam were not finished in time to allow much work to be done on the claims, added to which the volume of water from the Sbotover river was much larger than was expected.
