STOLE FROM WARDROBE.
A SUBNORMAL THIEF. PLACED OX PROBATION". A man of 37 years, whose name the magistrate agreed to suppress, admitted at the Police Court this morning, that he stole the sum of £14 from a wardrobe and was placed ou probation for a period o-f 12 months. It was stated by the chief detective that accused was a single man and supported his mother, who was SO years of age. Complaintant, who resided in the same house as accused, placed £19 in his coat pocket. llis clothes were left hanging in a wardrobe, and later he discovered that £14 had been stolen. Accused, when interviewed by Detective isrgeant Issell, frankly admitted that he stole the money. lie had never been in trouble before. Mr. J. J. Sullivan, who appeared for accused, said that the man had been subnormal since lie was a child, and since his brother was killed last year he had been worse. It was not an ordinary case of theft, and counsel susgested that accused might be allowed probation, and also that his name niiirht be kept from the public. Full restitution had been made.
