CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
MORE SLOT PHONES IN CITY. MUSIC SECTION AT LIBRARY. The City Council met last night, the Mayor (Mr. Geo. Baildon) presiding. Slot Phones.—Additional penny-in-the-slot telephone booths are to be erected at France Street corner (near Karangahape Roadl, and at the corners of Hepburn and Wellington Streets, and Ranfuriy and Manukau Roads. The city engineer (Mr. W. El. Bush) pointed ont that in the case of the site for the telephone at France St. corner it required to be carefully chosen, owing to the narrowness of the street, and the congested state of the traffic. For preference the booth should be situated on the Pitt Street side of i Karangahape Road. His only other recommendation was that the telephone for the Epsom area be placed in Ranfurly Road, and not in Manukau Road. On the recommendation of the Works Committee the installations were approved, the cabinets to be placed in positions approved by the engineer. Housing of Music Section at Library.— In connection with the housing of the Lewis Eady music section at the library, the town clerk reported that the eouneil has placed £500 on the estimates for 1927-28 for proposed alterations to the central library by the provision of an additional room over the vestibule at the first floor level.
