ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.

F.YV*. (Takapuna)—Too unpractical to be worth the space. DEVONPORT AFFAIRS. Instead of wanting to make the ratepayers have meter-, whv doesn't the Devonport Borough Council clean it? pipes and dead ends over-night, 50 that the water has'a chance to scale down before the consumer has to i:~e it for domestic purposes? There are thousands 01 gallons of dirtv water wasted by the consumers by letting taps run to get clean water for the daiTv consumption. Our water supply should be our best paying asset, as has been the case in the citv for so many years past. Instead of paving men to go round and inspect the 'taps cisterns, pay them extra for night work. Our streets are another consideration. Before wasting money to beautify the place, what could be better than clean, healthy streets, properly kerbed, channelled and levelled and put permanently in order, instead of patching a bit here and a bit there? While this is being done, the streets will never be at their permanent levels. Look at Mays Street; between £400 and £500 is going out in rates, and not even a footpath, let a street which faces the harbour, as this does, should be kept in proper order and not in its present disgraceful condition. Our main road has been concreted for the benefit of the Ferry Company traffic, and not for the ratepayers. Does the council ever think that when the ratepayers voted for the I streets and roads loan, thev thought that the money was to be allotted for some of the smaller streets? Has this been done? No! It has ail been spent on a few main roads, and we living in the minor streets are still in the same position as we were some ten years auo. 3IAYS STREET RESIDENT.
