EAST COAST ROAO.
PRESENT AND FUTURE WORK
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
OPOTIKI, this day.
The secretary of the Bay of Plenty Development League has received the following letter from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. Mr. K. S. Williams, in connection with the East Coast road:—
"In continuation of my letter of the 21st ult., I have to advise you that the importance of this road is fully recognised as will be seen from the fact that, during the last financial year authorities to the extent of £12,800 were issued and approximately £10,000 expended on various sections and bridges. At the present time the County Council hae about 25 men at work, and my Department has 31 men from the Motu River to the Te Kaha section. "Regarding future work it is the intention to erect the Motu Bridge and push on with the construction from the end of the present road on the Opotiki side of the river to the county boundary and so join up all the isolated sections already formed.
The site plan and other information for the Motu Bridge have been prepared and the design ie in hand. ,, .
