NOTES PROM ADDINGTON.

SAPLING STAKES PROSPECTS

ißj Telesraph.— Special to "Star.")

CHRISTCHURCH. Thursdav

The Ashburton Trotting Club's winter meeting, to be held on Saturday, has attracted exceptionally large fields, there being 173 horses in the seven handicaps included on the programme. The club is fortunate in having plenty of room on the big race track, and there should be some first-class sport.

With eight horses standing their pround in the New Zealand Sapling Stake*, the classic two-vear-old event to be decided at the Ash'burton Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday should provide a very interesting contest. Vestas is tlio popular fancy, but Daphne De. Oro is another \rith public form to recommend her, while Monopole. Harvest Child and Sonoma have shaped well on the Addington track. The North Island filly Enawah is engaged, but she ha« been under a cloud lately, which h a pity as she is a smart young pacer. Xo work is being done on the race track at Addington at present. Owing | to it being in such a bad state, caused ' by the recent racing on it. followed by this week's rain, all training work i« being done on the training track, which is in capital order. In view of the near approach .if the Ashburton and Auckland meetings, a good deal of useful work is being done. D. Kerr. who J brought the pacer Moor Chimes to com- ! pete at the recent meeting of the Canterbury Park Club, returned south to-day. \Moor Chimes remains behind to be raced i on Saturday at Ashburton, where she will be driven by J. Walsh. D. Kerr has a number of young horses in work in the south and he could not leave them too ! lens. • j Oolden Devon, who raced tinsucces- ! fully at the Canterbury Park Club's ! meeting, did not return to the West Toast, but will remain here until August •n chorge of A. Cox. Golden Devon was livniiclit across to race at th-- Easter iiH'Ctins at Addinrton.
