THE UPS AND DOWNS OF IT.

A casual waterside worker concerned in a maintenance case in the Magistrate's Court this morning said that in one week he earned only 4/8. When pressed by Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., however, he admitted that the previous week he had received £7. It was stated that defendant had several previous orders against him, and had always kept up with his payments. The parties had united again, and this necessitated the wife coming to the court for a further order.

The magistrate told defendants that if he got out of work to advise the court, and the order would be suspended till he got into work again. It was stated that there was no attempt on defendant's part to evade his obligations. The magistrate warned the wife that if she chanced to go back to her husband again, there was no need for her to apply to the court for a further order. They were filling up their books for her.
