GOES BACK TO GAOL.
BEGGED ALMS IX STREET.
"Things are very bad, sir, that's all I can say. I can't get work," said Alexander Mellis (64), to Mr. \Y. R. McKean. S.M., at the Police Court this morning, when he pleaded guilty to vagrancy and begging alms in Victoria Street.
Chief Detective dimming* said th.it Mellis accosted a number of people in the street and asked for money. A request for one shilling was made to ;i detective, who arrested Mellis. Mellis had 11/ on him, so there was no necessity for him to beer. He was an olil offender with 33 previous conviction? recorded airninst him and only came out if eaol on May 30.
"Judsinp by vour list, Mellis, things *«ave been bad for somp time." said tiv magistrate in sending him back to prisov ■V>r two months.
