EVASIVE ATTITUDE.
Difficulty of Negotiations With
Egypt.
NO BARGAINING ON DEFENCE.
LONDON, June 8.
Protracted and difficult negotiations ■with the Egyptian Government seem to be indicated by the evasive attitude reflected in its reply to ths British Note. The memorandum sent by the Foreign Office to Lord Lloyd will enable him to make a series of pertinent inquiries, and upon the answers given to them will depend Britain's future course of action. It is understood the Foreign Office made it clear that there can be no bargaining on the subject of the defence of Egypt, for which Britain intends to remain solely responsibje.
