The chief detective added that accused's character had been good in the past. He was thinking of leaving for Australia shortly. The amount of money required to make restiluion was £7.
Lowe told the magistrate that if he made restitution he could not go to Australia. He had the money to pay his fare tc Australia.
"Why did you appropriate this money; were you short of cash at the time'." asked Mr. McELean. "No. sir, it was a case of his living above his means," answered Mr. Curnmings. "My reason tor going to Australia is to ioin the Australian Navv, sir," Lowe told the SM. Mr. McKean: You will have to make restitution first before you go. You will be fined £.">, or 14 days' imprisonment, on one charge, and £2, or seven davs, to be cumulative, on the other.
