EXHIBIT OF ETCHINGS.

riKE LOAN COLLECTION.

FIEST OF ITS KIND HERE

Auckland public galleries are singularly lacking in etchings, and the loan exhibition which is being arranged under the guidance of Mr. John Barr, city librarian and director of the art galleries, will be all the more appreciated by people who are interested. The opening date has not been definitely fixed, but will be somewhere towards* the end of the present month. The exhibition will be held in one of the rooms at the galleries in Kitchener Street. It will be open for three weeks. Such exhibitions are common in the Old Country, but this will be the first of its kind to'be held in Auckland. It is not everyone that can appreciate a picture or an etching at its proper value, and these will find the catalogue that is being prepared most helpfuL In addition to cataloguing the exhibits, it will include a short criticism from authoritative sources, about the work of each etcher.

Considerably over one hundred specimens of good original etching have been loaned, but the promoters are still short of the work of certain men who should be represented, notably, James Mcßey, Muirhead Bone, D. Y. Cameron, Frederick <;riggs, and Anders Zorn, and anyone having work by any of them would be doing the cause of art a good turn bv loaning for this exhibition.
