A total of 108 persons arc believed to have been drowned "when the interIsland steamer, Negros, foundered in a typhoon on May 28, 150 miles south of Manila. The victims included the captain, six of the crew, the chief engineer, and 100 passengers. The Negros, a 280-ton craft, left the island of Romblow on May 26 with 160 passengers and a large cargo. All hands battled against the typhoon and terrific seas for two days, with extraordinary heroism. One officer on the first day of the storm is credited with saving the lives of 50 passengers. With some of the crew he succeeded iu loading that number aboard a lifeboat, after which he spent 20 hours without food or drink, being terribly buffeted in a wild tea. He succeeded in landing in Tayadaa province on May 29. Two other steamers are overdue. HOLLAND SWEPT. 30 KILLED, 300 INJURED. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 1. During a great -yclone, which passed over the province of Gelderland, in Holland, 30 people, were killed and 300 injured.
