LIBEL ALLEGED.
MARRIED WOMAN CLAIMS £8000. COMPLAINS OF LETTERS WRITTEN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. A claim for £2000 damages for an alleged libel i% being heard by Mr. Justice MacGregor and a jury. The plaintiff, Ada Frances Walker, wife of a marine engineer, of Wellington, alleges that the libel was contained in letters, which she considers reflected on her moral character, and she alleges that the letters were written by Olive Phillips, wife of Andrew Phillips, licensee of the Royal Hotel, Westport. Both Mr. and Mrs. Phillips are being sued.
The defence amounts to a general denial of plaintiff's allegations. The jury awarded plaintiff £100 damages, and judgment was entered accordingly.
