SPORTING FIXTURES ON
KING'S BIRTHDAY.
RACES, FOOTBALL, HOCKEY
The holiday programme on Friday isomewhat restricted by winter conditions, which necessarily make citizen* shy of excursion jaunts to beach an<l countryside, save in the case of such hardy souls as delight in game-shooting. As ever, the chief sports feature of the day will be the opening of the Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting at the Ellerslie course. Followers of the League football game will bo provided with a senior match at Cnrlaw Park in the afternoon, when Devon|>ort will play Richmond. The first of the Chatham Cup matches will interest supporters of Soccer football, the game being Ponsonby v. Northeotc, at Blandford Park. No Rugby football of consequence is being played on Friday. in view of the regular club games following the next day.
The annual tournament and sports meeting of the Auckland Hockey Association will be held on ihe Remuera Reserve. Bowling on the winter greens will be indulged in by members of several of the local clubs.
