BACKWARD CHILDREN.
OBJECTION TO CLASSES. EDUCATION BOARD"S POSITION. The fact that some parents objected to the attendance of their children at special classes for backward pupils was briefly mentioned by the chairman of the Auckland Education Board (Mr. A. Burns) at this morning's meeting. He said it was just a question whether or not compulsion could be employed in such cases.
It was decided to refer the matter to the Education Department, with a view to ascertaining the board's position in the matter.
