The old Martian gelding Vagabond, is among the entries for the Napier Park Winter meeting.

King Emerald sprinted si* furlong:* very pleasingly at Ellerslie on Tuesday morning. He is to take on open company in the luture, but, nevertheless, he can be expected to give a good showing, fur he has plenty of pace.

A. Morrow has Wyoming looking better than he has ever been, while the bay gelding has also been working in improved style. Should he fail to show up in his engagements at Ellerslio during the meeting, it will not be for luck of condition.

Welkne appeared to handle the heavy ground quite satisfactorily when indulged in a half-mile sprint ;.isterday morning. Tlie big bay gelding has done

most of his racing when the tracks have been hard, and it will !«■ interesting to see how he fares on a heavy course.

It the going at EUerslie does not improve, and is still heavy at race time, the chances are that Llewellyn will not compete at the meeting. Hie trainer, P. Con way, does not intend to risk his horse in bad ground, and will reserve him for the tirand National meeting at Christchuich.

•Enare jumped four schooling hurdles yesterday at Ellerslie in such manner as points to the chestnut gelding being hard to dispose of in minor jumping events at the meeting. He has previously raced well in heavy ground, for he dead-heated with Rangi Saito on the Feilding course last September, in a hack hurdle event.

Tall Timber gave a much improved showing over hurdles on Monday last at Ellerslie, when schooled on the course proper over four fences. He is up against a number of seasoned hurdles in his racee at the coming meeting, but judging by his latest display he should be capable of giving a good account of himself.

Delightment is looking in great fettle, and pleased by the manner in which he strode over six furlongs yesterday at headquarters. The Catmint horse" has won seven races this season, and with one exception these were all run in heavy ground, therefore, he will he in his element at Ellerslie during the winter meeting.

The divisions of the Members' Hnndicap. to he run on the first day of the Auckland winter meeting, will 'form the seventh and eighth races. The totalisator will be open on both of them, as the programme only provides for seven events, and the club is entitled to open it on eight races, the division providing that number.

Gala Day has been goihg in improved fashion on the training track, but the son of Quin Abbey is not as forward as could be wished. He has only been up a short time, and waa very big in condition when he commenced work after a epell extending over several months. He will probably require a few races before being at his best again.

Oration and Royal Mint have put in an appearance at "Ellerslie to fulfil engagements at the winter meeting. Oration shaped well in a efx-furloiip gallop yesterday, when he appeared to go better in the heavy ground than he has previously done. Ifc is in great condition at the present time.

Mount Marta is on hand to fulfil engagements at Ellerslie. He has been paid up for in both the big jumping events, and is also nominated for the Winter Steeplechase on the concluding day. At the recent Wanganui meeting Mount Marta won a hack hurdle race in good style, but ho has yet to make his appearance over the big fences.

Black Cruiser was allotted strong work on the No. 2 prass yesterday morning at EUerslie. The AH Black gelding looks to be nice and solid and worked freely. He has not won a race since capturing the Tiri High Weight Handicap at tho Takapuna spring meeting, but is among the field down to compete in the Members' Handicap next Friday.

Harbour View was brought across to Ellerslie yesterday morning and sprinted fairly well over four furlongs. This horse looks greatly improved in condition, and is partial to heavy ground, for he won at the Avondale meeting in soft going. The horses he will be meeting at the winter fixture are a decidedly better class than those that competed against him when he won at Avondale.

Nadarino has been brought to Ellerslie to fulfil engagements at the winter meeting. At the Great Northern fixture last year, Nadarino won the Members' Handicap, carrying 8.9, and he is engaged in the same race this week with 8.6. Since winning at Auckland a year ago, Nadarino has only scored on one occasion, and that was when he annexed the Stewards' Handicap, six furlongs, at the Wairarapa autumn meeting.

Indian Sage, who has arrived at Ellerslie to compete at the Great Northern meeting, was a very useful three-year-old last season, winding up with two wins, one at the Wellington autumn meeting (the Muritai Handicap, one mile), and the other at the Wellington winter meeting (Stewards' Handicap, six furlongs). This season he has only won one race, the Ling Memorial Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Otaki, in which he beat Shining Armour, Nukumai and others.

Ramblin' Kid, who is among the recent arrivals at Ellerslie, was a starter on each day at the last Waikato meetine, and ran third on each occasion. On the and Bright Dawn, and on the second day occupied a similar position to Red Comet and Royal Doulton. Ramblin' Kid is engaged in the Hunt Club Hurdles on the first day, while on the second he is entered for the Hunt Club Cup (Steeples) and the Carbine Plate. Comet Kinir did not impress when schooled nver hurdles just recently on the course proper. He will need to improve in his jumping to have a show a moil j: the hurdlers ;it the coming meeting, for there arc some promising horse*

Dick has been petting throupli a lot of solid work on the flat since he arrived at headquarters. The little Gluten peldinp has not been tried o\er fences while he has Iteei: at F.llerslie. but too much notice need not be taken of that fact, for it ha< happened bo fore concerning Dick in his preparation for steeplechase events here.

Ludy Desmond bruised her shoulder before leaving Hawera for the Auckland Easter meeting. The injury yielded to treatment, and the filly ran a fair race in the St. but showed surprisingly poor form on the second day. The injury manifested itself ajrain. and a few days apo a larpe quantity of congealed blood was taken from the wound.

Lord Star was second in the Cornwall Handicap last year with S. - 2. In the forthcoming event he is weighted at 8.8. and with that impost he is sure to have support, for he has run well recently.
