FARMERS' PROBLEMS.
INQUIRY BOARD WANTED. FURTHER REPRESENTATIONS PLANNED. The mnn in the country was watching to see what was being done by the city man, through tho operations of the league, in the direction of meeting the difficulties under which the farmer laboured, said Mr. E. Earle Vaile, in the i course of a discussion at a meeting of the New Zealand Land Settlement and Development League executive. So soon as the city interests gave evidence that they were in earnest they would be entitled to the sympathy "and help of the. farmer. Mr. .1. H. Hay ward (Whangarei) considered that it was useless to send jan organiser to the country districts I until thi> city man had given evidence of the sincerity of his desire to help. The farmer was asking "Why this sudden move to assist?" Mr. Ceo. Finn suggested that there I was nothing sudden about the city man's , interest; it had been going on for years I and would continue. J Mr. E. Harding (Dargaville) considerJed that all efforts should concentrated lon securing membership and adequate j funds to carry on the ordinary functions of the league.. Mr. Vaile referftd to the interview with the Prime Minister, which he said did not seem to have achieved much. The Arbitration Court should not be abolished, but a right basis foi computation for fixing wages should be arrived at. Mr. \V. W. Ma«sey considered that the deputation might consider it had succeeded if the Government made a definite announcement that a board of inquiry was to be set up. It was resolved that the Minister of Lands be approached immediately upon his return to New Zealand, and asked to give immediate effect to the request for an inquiry.
