CAPTURE CLAIMED
SUN AS PRISONER. Reported Treachery of Junior Officer. FOOD SITUATION ACUTE. (By Cable.—Pren Assodatloa.— Copyright.) (BecelTcd 10.80 a.m.) SHANGHAI. May 23. The local Nationalist newspaper claims that Chiang Kai-shek's forces have captured General Son Chuan Fang, the erstwhile Shanghai defender. This is stated to have been the result of the treachery of a subordinate who suddenly turned Nationalist and arrested his commander. His reward was tbc command of the 36th Nationalist Army. They also claim the capture of Tundchow, the most important industrial centre in Kiangsu Province. The food situation in Hankow U acute- and prices are soaring- Every third male has been conscripted to reinforce the Southern front. On the Honan sector there have been several runs on native banks but the military has prevented disorders by the use of force.
